KING FILM ZEALOUS 200 / 36 – C-41

There's an itch inside me that never goes away, and that's the film itch! I search a lot about different stocks, and whenever a certain look really speaks to me, I just have to try it. King Film's Zealous color negative, ISO 200, was no exception. I'm not sure why, but its colors with that green tonality really pulled me in: a special teal-ish green with that cool vibe to it.

I shot the whole roll in a single day, dropped it off at the lab to get developed, and then the waiting began. One of the most enjoyable parts of shooting analog is exactly that wait for your developed photos to come back. It's a feeling that's hard to describe.

Omid and I walked around Prague's city center and took a ton of photos. When I saw the results, I was genuinely amazed. It was early spring, the sky was heavily overcast with only the occasional hint of sun, and we got lucky enough to catch a few shots in the sunlight. This film has a cool tone with a moderate green cast, and it gave the photos a cinematic feel. There's no way to recreate this kind of color and shadow rendering in digital. I'm sharing all the photos right here for you to see, with no editing or post-processing at all.

  • King Film is a small independent brand that hand-spools its film into metal cartridges.

  • Zealous 200 is a limited edition made from an ORWO emulsion, from the old Agfa factory in Wolfen, Germany, one of the pioneers of color film.

  • Maybe that cinematic heritage explains the muted colors and cool tones I saw in my photos.
